Feeling rejected?

A Message from Noelyne....

I have been delivering a two day training course to prepare people for the new role they are about to take.  It's part of the recruitment process and a requirement to attend prior to a contract being issued.  On the last in a series of events one of the participants shared with me that she was a last minute delegate as she had been on a reserve list.

During the course she commented that the pace was slow as she was used to a very busy working environment.  I immediately sensed that she was still feeling upset about not having been selected at the start of the recruitment.  She continued to make comments about the fact that she was a reserve throughout the two days.  On chatting to her she had assumed that her experience in a similar role 10 years ago would be enough to make her successful.  She also felt rejected.

It's an example of making assumptions and then holding on to unresourceful emotions i.e. the disappoitment or anger of being rejected.

It transpired that five other people on the course were also on the reserve list.  I would not have known by looking at them.  It was not an issue for them and they were just very happy to be called forward for the job.

Things don't always turn out how we expect and there's normally a lesson to be learnt.  The next time you feel rejected look for the lesson that you need to learn.  What do you need to do differently?  What other options are there?

Enjoy the process of life,
